DESCRIPTION:Massively parallel supercomputers of the “Blue Gene family”
by IBM are nowadays among the most powerful and efficient (i.e. “envir
onmentally sustainable”). In summer 2012 the newest member of Blue Gene
family was installed at Cineca. This is Blue Gene/Q.\nThe present course
intends to enable/support the scientific community to efficiently exploit
the Blue Gene/Q system and it is aimed primarily at people using it for
first time. More precisely\, starting from a general overview concerning
(massively parallel) supercomputers and HPC trends\, the course aims at
providing a full description of the Fermi configuration at Cineca\, with
special emphasis on main crucial aspects for users and application develo
pers. For instance\, details about compilation\, debugging and optimizatio
n procedures will be provided\, together with an overview of the availabl
e libraries\, tools and applications currently available on the system. E
xamples of submission jobs will be discussed\, together with scheduler (Lo
adLeveler) commands and queue definitions. A “practice session” is al
so planned.Target Audience:\nUsers and developers on the FERMI Tier -0 sys
temTopics:\nOverview of Blue Gene/Q architecture and software (hardware co
mponents\, network and partitioning\, type of nodes and software stack)\nD
eveloping applications for Blue Gene/Q (porting\, debugging\, spotting pos
sible bottlenecks)\nRunning and monitoring jobs on Blue Gene/Q (the runjob
  command\, environment variables\, job script examples\, LL commands\, Ava
ilable Debugging and Profiling Tools)\nSoftware performance and scalabilit
y on Blue Gene/QPrerequisites:\nBasic knowledge of linux/UNIX and experien
 ce on parallel programming.\n\nhttps://events.prace-ri.eu/event/259/
